Butcher Jones OHV Trail [CLOSED] is a 16.2 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Fort McDowell, Arizona that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. Along the shore you’ll see men and women fishing—standing in the water, floating in kayaks, riding in boats—trying their luck at trout, walleye, bass, and catfish. The first section of the trail is wooded with mesquite trees that accumulate into a thicket and offer a shaded canopy.This area is heavily trafficked as the view of the lake’s beach, with its marsh and striated cliff, come into view on the right-hand side. They do not sell them there and are strict about each car having a pass to park... lots of law enforcement. Probably one of my favorites. Well marked in and out trail with great views of the lake.Great place to hike in the morning.

It was really just the first mile that we passed other people on the trail, the further you go, the less people you see. Bring sunscreen, water, and pack a lunch/snack- there’s a lot of great places to take a break and enjoy the views.
